Crested Serpent Eagle
The Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela) is a medium-sized bird of prey that is found in forested habitats across India.
They forage over the forest canopy with their wings and tail showing broad white and black bars and often call with a piercing and familiar three or two-note call. They often feed on snakes, giving them their name.
Story Behind -
It was a Morning Drive at Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. Dens Forest of Dandeli was coming alive slowly on that cold Morning. Sun was just about to rise when saw some Giant Squirrels on the Babmboo trees. Suddenly Eyes stopped at something while scanning continuously all around.
Crested Serpent Eagle was feeding on something ... took this opportunity to photograph it first and then took the video. It was amazing how he was feeding on the snake .. its clear in this video the reason of these eagles having that sharp beak and some muscle power to easily take the flesh out and eat it.
This must be easily the most widespread Eagle species found in India in various types of habitats.
I was standing on the top of the Jeep top to attain the high level to shoot this my equipment resting on Monopod... not a very stable setup though .
